Designer Spotlight: Stacey

Hi!

I live in Gladstone , on the East Coast of Queensland, Australia. I have been married for 7 years to my husband Tim and we have 2 adorable little boys, Cooper (3) and Kobi (17 months). I am a stay at home Mum who enjoys spending my time with my boys and also with the rest of the family and friends. I love nothing more than going to the park or to the beach with my family. I am reading the Twilight books at the moment, I haven't read a book in a long time and these ones have me hooked, I am not a huge fan of cooking but I love dancing (not that I am very good at it) and watching dance shows and movies. So there you go, just a little bit about me.

I have been scrapping for about 6 years now, I don't really remember what got me into it but I have always been crafty and arty, before I found scrapbooking I painted with acrylic paints on canvas. I created alot of underwater scenes with brightly painted fish and I guess all those bright colours splashed into my scrapbooking style:)

My favourite supplies would have to be embellishments, patterned paper and paint, as long as it's colourful. I would have to be one of Prima's biggest fans, their stuff just keeps getting better and better:) I also love Rouge De Garence and Sass.

My boys are a constant source of inspiration for me but I also do alot of blog hopping, there are so many wonderfully talented scrappers out there. I also get inspiration just from a piece of paper or product:)

Ta,
Stace:)

So Long...

Hey, sorry about the absence! After my last post I went to a staff meeting at Lasting Memories, where I found out we will be closing at the end of May. It was a bittersweet moment. It was a moment I have now experienced from both sides, as manager and employee, as the bearer of bad news and the recipient of bad news.

I started there in October, and I am the newest member of the staff. I have enjoyed the friendly faces, the wedding advice, the lovely treats and sincere friendship of each person I've worked with. These are not your average co-workers, they look out for one another like family.

Starting thursday we worked long days putting out new product and getting the store ready for the big sale. We were closed for three days. Yesterday we opened up to more than 400 people, some who stood in line for 2 hrs just to check out. It's going to be a crazy few weeks. I will be working as much as possible until we close.

Part of me is excited for new adventures. Perhaps more opportunity to practice and pursue my art and filling the etsy shop with lots of lovely buttons. Over the last few months I've been working at slowly saving up to buy more efficient equipment, and I can't wait to better serve the lovely people who visit my online shop.

Right now I'm pretty consumed with the immediate. Having been through this process before I have a certain faith in things. When I was out of a job this time last year there were times when I wasn't sure how we would pay a bill, and something always came. So, I'm trying not to worry about how we will save for the wedding, how I'll find another job, the stress of finding said job...etc. I'm hoping to busy my mind with the task/s at hand, and trust that I can figure the rest out later.

Here's to April being almost over...

Sole Repair

So...I'm happy to share another wedding inspired post. I hope you can forgive me...I know I probably post about my wedding plans often. But, this was just too cool not to share! We've had a really really hard time securing a venue. There have been all sorts of troubles along the way, one went out of business, another wouldn't allow any minors at the reception...on and on. I found our venue using YELP. I basically had a freak out moment and started researching anywhere that could host a private party that looked cool and affordable. Here is the beauty we looked at yesterday. As of a contract signature tomorrow it will be our dream venue for our dream day ;)

Venue: Sole Repair shop
Location: Capitol Hill, Seattle
Awesome bonus: The building is eco friendly and it's construction used almost entirely salvaged materials. The staff is awesome. The food is amazing. The price is affordable. My stress level just went from 110% to 50% in 24 hrs.

Here are some pics we took yesterday...

Oh, and behind the building there are two graffiti walls. I could die. I love it. Can't wait!!

Thanks for bearing with me. Weddings are insanity. But the journey to being a married person is pretty amazing. The ability to personalize every detail of a wedding is a beautiful and frustrating thing! Hope you enjoyed this pretty location!

Designer Wednesday!

Hi!

Whew...it's been a rough couple of days over here! I had the intention of blogging the last couple of days but life sort of got in the way! We are still trying to find the perfect wedding venue. We loved one we saw last week but it doesn't allow anyone under 21 because it's under a bar and both my younger siblings are not old enough. We have a few prospects but mostly I just feel overwhelmed. Planning is not my strong point. On top of that C's dad was laid off a couple weeks ago and we are all worried about the family. Jobs are scarce these days. On Monday C and I went to get in our car to go to work and instead found this:

That's right...our poor car got broken into and the thief/theives had quite a good time. They pried the stereo out with a crowbar, cut the amp out of my trunk, stole my iphone charger, our GPS, gps charger and ac/dc converter. About 500$ worth of stuff.

Hondas are pretty much one of the easiest cars to break into. They beckon to a thief like a tramp stamp to a frat boy. I think my car pretty much opened the door for the thief and assisted with the crowbar. For the most part I'm really not upset. Not about the stuff anyway. It's just stuff. It can all be replaced. They didn't steal anything important with personal information, or the registration or anything like that. I think we felt sort of violated about it all. The car no longer feels safe. We did get the dashboard fixed today and luckily they didn't damage the car in any other way, no broken locks or windows.

Now onto the fun part of today!! Designer Wednesday! First off, Sorry for not posting sooner. I feel really bad! Today I'm sharing some great stuff from Sharmaine. I have really enjoyed getting to know her over the last couple years, and watching her evolve as an artist and a mum. Enjoy the delicious inspiration today!!!

Love how she cut the buttons here!

And I saw this amazing painting she did for Qtea kits this month and had to post it! The colors and textures are amazing! Really beautiful! I wish I could have seen the process, I love that part. Each artist is not only unique in their art but in how they create it! It's a beautiful thing!

I am lucky enough to have an original piece of Sharmaine's art. I think it's perfect for spring!

Thank you Sharmaine for the lovely art! I can't wait to put it above my yellow typewriter in my living room!

Hope you all are having a great week!

Inspiration and a giveaway!!!

I'm so excited to blog today peeps. I've had a long week, a frustrating and tiring and hardly any sleep week. But today I joined some awesome crafters and artists at Freshy's coffee shop in West Seattle for a new "Homade Brigade." (which might I add had delicious food and coffee!) It was the funnest time I have had at a craft show. The weather slowed our afternoon crowd down but I met quite a few cool people, and I think I needed that the most!

I sat next to Julia (from Pixel and Post) who is an amazing illustrator-mom-and graphic design extraordinaire. Her prints were adorable, and I even got a peek into her sketchbook! How sweet is that? My favorite print of hers was just featured on Apartment therapy. Check it out.
I also love this one!
We also chatted with our table neighbor Maribel from Maribel Made. I thought it was cool that Maribel has lived in London before. She gives sock monkeys a new image. Her sock monkeys are badass. She even makes little hoodie sweaters for them...and I don't know if any of you know this about me but I LOVE hoodies. Especially the miniature kind ;) Here are some of Maribel's cool sock monkeys!

make sure you check out both of these awesome shops, you won't be dissapointed. Meeting Maribel and Julia was inspiring. Talking to people who are living their dreams always inspires me, and pushes me. I think it's important to find people who you can share ideas with, talk about marketing strategies and share in the creative process with. Recently I have been looking for an affordable studio space to rent once my dearly beloved intern moves here in June-ish so that I am not trying to create in our closet, or our dining room. It's one more step towards living my creative dream.

In other news...April sort of crept up on me. I haven't shared any new designs yet so I thought today might be a good day! Here is the newest set of buttons. I think you'll love them! They are so fun and bright for spring. I can't wait to put them on the mother's day presents I'm making!
I'm going to give one lucky person a set of these pretty buttons. If you would like to enter the giveaway please post a comment with a link to something/someone that inspires you :)

Good Luck!
